June 23, 2016 – The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) today encouraged all members of its global taekwondo family to get active and join them in celebrating Olympic Day.

Olympic Day is held every year on June 23 to mark the birthday of the International Olympic Committee and aims to promote the positive impact sport can have on people’s lives. Millions of people around the world will today celebrate Olympic Day and the WTF calls on all its Member National Associations and fans to join the celebrations and promote the principles of Olympism.

WTF President Chungwon Choue said:

“Olympic Day is a fantastic reminder of just how important it is that everyone – men and women of all ages – engage in sport and live healthy lifestyles. Taekwondo is a sport which can be practiced by people of all ages, genders and abilities and so is an excellent way for people to keep active and have fun! But it is also more than a sport; it is a philosophy which teaches discipline, self-awareness and respect.

“At the WTF we take our responsibility to the Olympic Movement very seriously and actively promote sport, healthy lifestyles and Olympism in young people around the world. Today, on Olympic Day, we call on all our 206 Member National Associations, our 80 million practitioners and millions of fans around the world to get active and celebrate the joy of sport.”
