Taekwondo made its debut as an official medal sport at the Olympic Games in 2000. Inclusion at Sydney 2000, and all subsequent Games since, is "one of the WTF's greatest achievements" in the eyes of World Taekwondo Federation President, Chungwon Choue.
Olympism is to be found in taekwondo in its athletic essence and the values promoted by coaches and consequently displayed by its athletes. It is sport in its purest form – an individual display of speed and skill and provides athletes with self-discipline, respect and self-awareness.
Gaining inclusion in the Paralympic Games for 2020 is a priority for the WTF as the federation seeks complete alignment with the Olympic Movement.
