Moscow, Russia has won the right to host the 5th WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships in Moscow, Russia on June 21-22, 2014, the World Taekwondo Federation said.
The Moscow championships will feature both kyorugi and poomsae as well as an international para-taekwondo symposium for the first time.
At its Council meeting in Taipei City, Chinese Taipei on March 18, 2014, the WTF decided to hold the 1st WTF World Deaf-Taekwondo Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, the United States, or in Reno, Nevada in November 2014. The deaf championships will also feature both kyorugi and poomsae.
The Council also approved the WTF World Taekwondo Grand Prix events for 2014 and 2015. The first two World Grand Prix series for this year will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan and Suzhou, China in July, with the order to be finalized shortly. The third Grand Prix series will take place in Manchester, the UK in October, wth the Grand Prix final scheduled to take place in Mexico, mostly in Queretaro, in December.
With the WTF Council approval, the 2015 Grand Prix series will take place in Suzhou, China, followed by the Great Britain and Russia, while the Grand Prix final will take place in Mexico, mostly in Mexico City, in December 2015.
At the beginning of the Council meeting, there was a progress report on para-taekwondo. Taekwondo kyorugi was shortlisted on March 5 this year by the IPC Governing Board for the official program of the 2020 Paralympic Games, whose final decision will be made in October this year in Berlin, Germany.
The WTF Council members unanimously approved the standing procedures for the WTF World Para-Taekwondo Championships.
The Council meeting was held two days before the opening of the two-day WTF World Qualification Tournament for the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games. After a one-day break, the qualification tournament will be followed by the 10th WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Taipei City on March 23-26.
